I didn’t plan for Ramadan this year, not adequately at least. But, I wanted it to be more than eating before dawn and eating after dusk. There’s so much going on in the world right now, perhaps holding onto faith is the anchor we need to keep the optimism candle burning bright.
I wrote a journal entry during the 29 days, and I’d like to pick some of my reflections.
Self & Discipline
Worthwhile things require planning.
Hold yourself accountable.
Focus. Always focus.
No one is making you do/see/hear things you shouldn’t. It’s all you.
Compete with yourself. Only yourself.
Pursuing knowledge isn’t easy. Make a choice.
Faith & God-Consciousness
Be mindful of God, and exhale.
Gratitude is also obedience.
God listens. Not in the way we think or expect, but He’s listening.
Wisdom reveals itself when we wear patience.
Charity isn’t a get-out-of-sin-free card.
Balance is the right choice, always the right choice.
Emotions & Our Internal States
Letting go is the best medicine.
Fear can be a motivating factor.
Anger is a useless and deceiving emotion.
You’ll be mocked for your commitment. So?
Be patient with people. It’s difficult, but easier when your expectations are low or moderate.
The World’s Noise
Staying away from the news is necessary if it gives you anxiety.
Tyrants never win.
Power is fickle — don’t believe in its deceit.
Death comes unexpectedly sometimes, and it doesn’t care who gets left behind.
Detachment & Relationships
Don’t have expectations – from anyone.
No one and nothing on earth can fulfil you.
Be honest about your instincts.
Nature of Life
Life is a privilege.
Life is fleeting, strange and temporary.
Unpredictability of life is what makes it interesting.
All good things must come to an end. Bad things too.
Never stop chasing a good dream.
Closing Thought
A part of faith (all faiths) that should be discussed more is the importance of reflection – we are unique, and the world around us in its own uniqueness conveys so many secrets that we’re oblivious too because we don’t care to watch or listen.
