Dear Reader,
“I broke into a million pieces,
and I can’t go back,
but now I’m seeing all the beauty in the broken glass.
The scars are part of me.
Darkness and harmony.
My voice without the lies, this is what it sounds like.
Why did I cover up the colors stuck in my head?
I should’ve let the jagged edges meet the light instead…” HUNTRIX, K-pop Demon Hunters.
The Mirror
I was raised on various Barbie movies and Disney musicals; I am still a non-apologetic cartoon fan. But I glimpse what’s available these days and…
I clicked K-pop Demon Hunters because from the moment I watched Memories of the Alhambra, I became a fan of South Korean entertainment. Admittedly, not the music, apart from a few OSTs from the dramas.
When I watched the trailer for K-pop Demon Hunters, I wasn’t super impressed. Needing to clear my head, I clicked it when it was released recently and what a surprise!
It’s essentially about these three K-pop superstars who moonlight as superheroes, fighting against their ancient enemies, demons. But at the heart of the story is Rumi, the lead singer, who struggles with a secret that she fears will alienate her from her best friends and group members.
Rumi’s challenge is something that’s universally easy to sympathise with, we want to be ourselves, but the world tells us that who we are has negative connotations, and so we hide, and in Rumi’s case, under layers and layers of hoodies and long-sleeves.
Our power is in the uniqueness embedded in our identities, hobbies, passions and yes even in our traumas and fears.
When we embrace our quirks, the results could be extraordinary. We might even surprise ourselves.

“If you are silent about your pain, they’ll kill you and say you enjoyed it.” - Zora Neale Hurston.
The Grounding
Look for Zora Neale Hurston’s essays, read, even if it’s just one essay.
The Shelf
“Sometimes, I feel discriminated against, but it does not make me angry. It merely astonishes me. How can any deny themselves the pleasure of my company! It’s beyond me.” - How It Feels To Be Colored Me, Zora Neale Hurston.

Before You Go
Seriously, watch K-pop Demon Hunters.
To conclude my free PR, read the lyrics of one of the songs and tell me it doesn’t resonate with you.
“I was a ghost.
I was alone…
Giving the throne, I didn’t know how to believe I was the queen that I’m meant to be.
I live two lives, tried to play both sides, but I couldn’t find my own place.” - HUNTRIX K-pop Demon Hunters.
Until next week,
